The south of Luxembourg has been placed under awareness level yellow floods from 23.09.2025 16:00 to 25.09.2025 00:00. The awareness level can be adapted or extended depending on the evolution of the situation.
Starting this afternoon, a prolonged rainfall situation will set in, bringing substantial precipitation until tomorrow evening. The main focus areas are expected to be in the central and eastern parts of the country. Rainfall will intensify further tomorrow, after an initial rise in water levels by midday, another increase is expected from the afternoon onward.
On the Alzette, water levels are expected to rise from this evening and reach the range around the "Cote de vigilance orange" by tomorrow evening. Elevated water levels are also possible on the Ernz Noire and Ernz Blanche as well as the Syre.
The response of the watercourses will largely depend on the localisation and the observed amounts of precipitation. In the case of prolonged rainfall and locally higher precipitation in areas with already saturated soils, smaller watercourses may rise rapidly.
Increased caution is advised for seasonal activities along watercourses (camping, etc.), construction sites, and generally near rivers.
