Floods in the south of Luxembourg

The south of Luxembourg has been placed under awareness level red floods from 09.09.2025 08:00 to 09.09.2025 14:00. The awareness level can be adapted or extended depending on the evolution of the situation. 

Continuous rain and intense local downpours have led to a rapid rise in water levels in the south and center of the country.

The ‘Cote de vigilance orange’ has already been exceeded at all gauges on the Alzette. The ‘Cote de vigilance rouge’ has so far only been exceeded at the Pfaffenthal and Steinsel stations. At the gauges in Mersch and Ettelbruck, water levels will continue to rise to the ‘Cote de vigilance rouge’ level.

As no further significant rainfall is forecast, a gradual decline in water levels is expected. Caution is still advised when engaging in activities along waterways.
